Akila

Six year old Akila is a girl from a broken family. Her parents abandoned her in the care of her grandmother three years ago. Her grandmother is employed as a day laborer earning less than US $3 per day which is insufficient to take care of Akila and her twin sisters. Due to the failing physical ability of the grandmother and her responsibility of nursing the grandfather who is bed-ridden Akila was brought to Samudra Sri Leadership Academy, CEI's home for children in need. During the first few weeks at the academy Akila was stubborn due to her traumatic past. Periodical counseling and the love and care shown by her caregivers have molded Akila into a fun-loving and playful child.
