Adam Salmon

Adam SalmonAdam, Founder & President, came to South Asia from Seattle in 1994 to start a company that published and exported textbooks. He soon became aware of the thousands of forgotten children living on the streets and in displacements camps that were missed by other aid organizations. Adam stated, "These children have special needs due to horrific life events. Without understanding the affect trauma has on a child and the emotional and cognitive changes it can bring, the healing process can be very difficult." He knew he needed to do more than just getting children off the streets. Adam wanted to create an environment where education and healing would facilitate the process of change. He wanted to see children transition from being victims of cyclical life-long dependency, to becoming self-sustaining and healthy leaders. Today, Child Empowerment International serves more than 6,800 children throughout Sri Lanka, and more recently Uganda. Adam, who serves as president of Child Empowerment International, holds a bachelor's degree in behavioral science from Northwest University, a master's degree in psychology from Seattle University.
